The Secret Truth About Sarah Palin, the Second Coming

Palin actually means "again," so that Palingenesis would be to be born again, a clear reference to the arrival of Jesus Christ again.

I hope Governor Palin goes ahead and writes a children's book entitled "How Godless, Criminal Democrats Stopped Me From Being Mommy to All America."

Sarah Palin Cost McCain the Election (UPDATE1)

UPDATE 1: Added paragraph about McCain's motivations

Not because she is retarded.  Not because she has the policy acumen of your average hockey mom, but because she has no experience.  The morning she was selected I knew it was all over for John Sidney McCain III.

See, you can argue that the Biden selection was a semi-cynical ploy to beef up the Obama ticket's foreign policy credentials, but I don't see how it helps with the current economic situation.

No, the Palin selection undermined the most effective argument the McCain campaign had.  This argument had been used by all the major McCain supporters.  Before that it had been used extensively by the campaign of Hilary Clinton.  It was an argument that made me worry.  It was an argument which I know was influencing some people who might not have wanted to vote for Obama for other reasons (racism, Hillary supporters).

The Palin selection undermined the experience argument completely.

So, we have three choices.  We can believe that McCain had no idea about what every Republican in America was saying about Obama and experience.  We can believe that this choice was forced on him by Ralph Reed, or the likes of him.  Or we can believe that John Sidney McCain the Third wanted the Democrats to win.  The most generous answer, of course, is the last.  And if it is true, we should thank John McCain. : And even if it isn't, we should thank him for a mostly decent fight.

Sarah Palin Is The Bestestest, D'uh!

From the most recent Palin interview, she shows how much of a normal person she really is, average, even.

"Sarah Palin says she doesn't know why most women don't support her candidacy or why others believe she is unqualified to be vice president, but she says that makes her determined to keep fighting."

"I truly believe that the wisdom of the people will be revealed that day, when they elect Barack Obama." I may have added that last bit.

"I was disappointed that my kids had to see that," referring to vulgar t-shirts. Personally, I am dissapointed she uses minors as campaign props.

"She said questions about her wardrobe and whether she could be vice president and raise a family at the same time were questions never asked of male candidates." She obviously missed the f*cktard Tim Russert (Nick Denton over at Gawker thinks Tim Russert was a great journalist, which is why Never go there anymore) ask John Edwards about his $400 haircut. And as for family rearing, she is running saying that she is a "normal" person, and running on the team that generally supports stay-at-home Moms and the "traditional" family.

She says " that final, hard-as-glass ceiling must be broken." which suggests she doesn't know what "glass ceiling" means.

"Palin was equally at a loss to explain why people, including several prominent Republicans, such as former Secretary of State Colin Powell, claim she is unqualified to be vice president." She was, however, completely sure that Obama was a Socialist with dubious Xian credentials.

Governor Palin, Trooper Wooten and the Moose

A moose, still dead, finds it tragic, that his own death, a criminal matter, was only important as part of campaign of vengeance in the aftermath of a divorce proceeding.

Todd Palin met with Walter Monegan in the first few days of the Palin administration and the only topic was Trooper Wooten.  Todd presented Monegan with a bunch of papers, including pictures of a dead moose.  Monegan agreed to review the documentation, to see if anything about the Wooten investigation had been mishandled.

Trooper Wooten shot and killed a moose wihtout a permit.  We know this because the Governor's sister (his then wife, and moose-killing permit holder) was standing right next to him.  Another person with first hand knowledge of the incident was Sarah Palin's father, who butchered said moose, which remains, to the present day, very dead.

After the review Monegan told Todd Palin that normally a charge wouldn't be filed, because a permit-holder was present, and if charges were filed, they'd also have to charge Sarah's sister and Sarah's dad.

This from pages 16-23 of the 263 Branchflower report(pdf) on allegations of Palin's abuse of power.
Palin and the Alaskan Ethics Law

Papers are repeating one of the responses of Palin's lawyer, Van Flein to the charge that she abused her power as governor in the Troopergate matter.  "Here, there is no accusation, no finding and no facts that money or financial gain to the Governor was involved in the decision to remove Monegan," the governor's attorney says. "There can be no ethics violations under these circumstances."

More Palin Family Vindictiveness

Palin's biggest scandal so far has been firing someone who wouldn't fire the man who spurned her sister.

Apparently, this sort of personal vindictiveness is not a one time thing with the Governor of Alaska.  This article, from the crypto-right-wing Politico website says Palin cuts off people who displease her:
Palin has unceremoniously ended relationships with an aide who was dating a family friend's soon-to-be ex-wife, a campaign adviser whose mother-in-law fought Palin's legislative agenda, a local political mentor who she felt represented the "old boys' network," a police chief who she said tried to intimidate her with "stern look[s.]"
Now, I do this to some degree.  I have a billion people to choose from for friends, 10,000,000 in the city alone, so if someone repeatedly acts daft, I just stop talking to them... but that is not how someone behaves on the job.

This inability to distinguish between the personal and the professional sounds relatively unimportant... but what about foreign policy?  Will she cut off Germany if they disagree over Creationism?  Will she alienate Japan because they are not Christians?

More Palin Links?

She's not going to make it to the election.

Video of Palin saying Iraq is a task from God (Duck Cheney is God?)

Audio of Peggy Noonan calling the Palin selection "gimmicky" and "cynical"  In McCain's defense, Noonan is a nut and a Reagan person, she is not an enthusiastic McCain supporter.

Today's Must Read

Bob Somerby discusses Palin, defeat of the Dems and Gennifer Flowers.

Marsha Blackburn has been all over the airwaves for the last few days.  Fire breathing squirrel.  Tonight she said the TV only provides talk, never provides answers.  John Sidney McCain III has appeared, over the last decade, more times on the TV news than anyone else.  More than twice as much as his nearest competitor, Tom Daschle.  Daschle was the leader of a party in Congress, a position McCain has never held.

Blackburn also Palin would make the best Vice President ever, better than Jefferson, Adams, or T Roosevelt, although she didn't name them by name.

Jesus's General Got Great Palin

Gender Equity Bible Thumpers?

No one has mentioned, on the news, the sexist macho jock assholes of the Republican Party, and no one has mentioned that there are millions of Christians in America (other religions? sure) who don't just "believe" in patriarchy, they live it.  Considering that McCain turned 72 today, how many of them would want a woman President when they firmly believe women are weaker and should be given orders?

And here is another group of "likely Republicans," who, along with the sexist pigs and the sexist Christians who might not dig the idea of a female President... the MILITARY.  I was happy/proud to find that there was a healthy dose of anti-racism in the Marine Corps.  I doubt it extends to every nook and cranny of the whole organization, but it was real.  On the issue of WOMEN, however, no attempt was ever made to correct the gross, blatant and incessant misogyny.

More on Palin

Zapster on freenode#politics provided this link about Governor Palin
"She's not prepared to be governor. How can she be prepared to be vice president or president?" ... "Look at what she's done to this state. What would she do to the nation? -- Republican State Senate Majority Leader of Alaska from Palin's home town
Dear WikiPedia

So far I haven't heard anything about Sarah Palin on television that wasn't already on Wikipedia.

Maria Bartiroma of CNBC did an interview with Palin two days ago, but I missed it at 4pm.  McCain = NBC?

This morning C-SPAN aired a February interview with Palin at the (I believe) National Governor's Conference.  She said
It is a responsibility of the Federal government to make sure that all citizens have an opportunity for good health care, for Medicaid coverage, Medicare coverage and we certaninly hope that they will live up to their obligation and responsibility.
[transcription by me]
At the time she was arguing against Alaska having to take on any further burdens, and wanted the Feds to pick up the tab.
Spiro Agnew, Not Much Heft?

Spiro Agnew had only been Governor of Maryland for two years when picked by Richard Nixon to be his VP pick.  Agnew had, as County Commissioner for Baltimore County, he was among the first people in the nation to sign a bill preventing "whites only" businesses.

Agnew was involved in national politics in the 1950s, many times working (at what level?) the House campaign of James Deveraux.
Illinois State Senate versus Alaska Governor

Alaska has 670,000 people!  Each Illinois State Senate district has about 215,000 people!

Then Obama won the Illinois-wide race, with about 12,830,000 people.
I think we need to go WAAAAY back

Was Dan Quayle as light-weight as Sarah Palin?  Actually, no.  Dan Quayle's experience in the U.S. Senate lasted eight years.  That's not terrible.  I've watched some of his debaes.  Hardly astounding, but he sometimes more rational than his fellow Republicans.

Some quick web research shows that R. Sargent Shriver was the last time anyone was chosen for VP with this little heft.  Shriver was chosen by McGovern after McGovern's first pick, Thomas Eagleton, was found to have mental problems.  Shriver had held no elected office, had served from 1941-45 in WWII as a Lieutenant, was the first director of the Peace Corps and an Ambassador to France.

This map shows how it turned out in 1972.

P.S. How do you serve more than four years in WWII and end up a Lieutenant?
Sexist Republican Pigs

Thank GOODNESS there are no misogynistic Republican men who would NEVER vote for a woman.
