Linguistic Bias In Foreign Reporting
Isn't that where it always shows up? The Shorenstein Center in DC brought in a Harvard academic, just returned from Pakistan, to explain what was going on.
First thing is that no party won the absolute majority required to govern, but it isn't entirely clear where the coalition will come from.
The academic said that everyone she talked to would ask where she was from ("International Democracy?") and then, when pressing and finding out she was American, reacted in a positive way. I'm guessing this conversation only happened with English speakers, and that's a serious bias. But past that, everyone in Pakistani politics knows where the extranational butter for their bread is coming from.
